Scandinavian Inspired Baby Shower

My best friend Chelsea, was months away from having her first child, a girl, and my heart overflowed with joy for the new journey she and her husband were about to start.

I couldn’t think of a more deserving mama-to-be to shower with love, and I was absolutely thrilled to design and throw a baby shower for her!

I had about three months to plan the event and was grateful for this time, as the baby shower was to be held near Spokane, Washington, which is about three hours away from my home.

Right away I headed over to Spokane to plan with Chelsea and to tackle the first task at hand: finding a venue. We were ecstatic when we discovered
Peone View Home.

Set in the sprawling wheat fields of Green Bluff, this gorgeous venue was about 15 minutes outside of Spokane, and was the perfect setting for such a special celebration.

After touring the venue, but before I left Spokane, we also chose a theme: a Scandinavian-inspired celebration as a tribute to Chelsea’s Norwegian descent and her fondness of Scandinavian decor. I couldn’t wait to get started on the design!

When deciding on the feel for the baby shower, I sat down and made a list of what I thought a Scandinavian-inspired celebration might look like. I envisioned a clean, modern look, with a neutral color palette and a lot of white. Adding in a pop of color for the baby girl seemed fitting, so I decided on a dusty rose for levity. Light wood elements and greenery also made my list.

With my vision complete, I found the sweetest invitations from Willow Lane Paperie that were the perfect modern match to our theme with a beautiful added touch of greenery.

With the theme, venue, and invitations set, it was time to start putting together decorations. This styled event needed four decorative signs: one to greet the guests, a drink menu, an eye catching sign to get guests excited about the planned activities, and a food/dessert sign. And if it’s a styled event that I’m planning, you can bet my good friend Josie of Chalk Chic Mama will be painting these signs.

My husband Aaron and I purchased a large piece of birch plywood and cut out a welcome sign, drink sign, onesie decoration station board, and two mini doughnut displays, which Josie then flawlessly hand painted in the selected color palette.

To carry over the look of the invitations and add a three-dimensional element, I used bent wire and greenery on three of the signs to replicate the linework and bordering on Willow Lane Paperie’s invites. They turned out better than I imagined!

Such a sweet sign to welcome the guests!

Also placed at the welcome station was a wooden baby gym we made for Chelsea’s little girl. I painted the top half a dusty rose color, and then hung an ever-so-darling macrame accessory made by my sweet friend Mariya, of Ever the Moon. All set, and ready for the new babe.

Adorning the gorgeous wood guest tables from Peone View I used soft dusty rose chiffon runners, layered with various types of eucalyptus greens, and candles of varying heights. Simple, yet beautiful.

I used my favorite tableware company, l’entramise, for the elegant plates, champagne flutes, and modern flatware. Not only are their plates stylish, but they’re recyclable too!

To help the guest of honor find her seat, Chalk Chic Mama beautifully wrote out “Mama-to-be” on her plate. We let the rest of the guests sit where they’d like, but found it vital to centrally seat Chelsea.

With a rather large guest count, Chelsea and I decided an afternoon celebration with drinks and desserts would be a great way to go.

I’m a huge fan of dessert bars, and love putting together a variety of fun, bite-size morsels, and was ecstatic to learn of a couple of Chelsea’s favorite local eateries. I quickly put together a variety of eight different desserts for the dessert table.

Sweet Frostings Blissful Bakeshop made a gorgeous drip cake with delicate meringues and macarons. We added some fresh flowers and greenery to the top, and it was the most delightful cake I have ever seen at a baby shower! They also provided the most delectable strawberry/champagne cupcakes I have ever had!

Adorning the donut wall displays were mouthwatering mini donuts from Hello Sugar. There were fun flavors like Dutch Baby, S’mores, Vanilla & Coconut, and Summit - a cinnamon & sugar doughnut with a Nutella drizzle and topped with mini marshmallows! All were a huge hit with the guests!

Also on the dessert table were the most charming baby shower cookies from my favorite “go-to” cookie gal Stephanie, of Prep and Bake.

The main focal point at the dessert table was the large macrame wall hanging. The incredible workmanship by Ever the Moon brought in a sweet softness above the desserts that caught everyone’s eye. This delicate piece played duel role, as decoration for the party, and is now hanging above the crib in Chelsea’s daughter’s nursery. My favorite component when designing a baby shower is finding or making items that can be used & cherished later on, and this piece was definitely it!

Adorning the drink station was our adorable Cheers sign and guests had their choice of strawberry sorbet punch, or a variety of juice & fresh fruit to make a mimosa if they desired.

Let’s get creative!

For the activity, guests enjoyed decorating bibs and onesies using distinct stencils I made tailored to Chelsea’s love of the outdoors and animals. I find that this is a great activity that guests of any age enjoy doing.

How perfect is Chalk Chic Mama’s craftsmanship on this sign?! It’s one of my favorites!

I love the simplicity of words written out in greenery, and had been dying to try it, and thought this would be the perfect opportunity! I had Chalk Chic Mama write out in big, cursive letters “Oh Baby” and then I took some wire we had and followed the letters to make the base. Then, the night before the shower I attached some greenery to it, and viola! I just love how it turned out!

Gorgeously correlating with the invitations, Willow Lane Paperie also made “Well wishes for baby” cards, “Advice for the mom-to-be” cards, and “Baby predictions” cards - all ready for shower guests to write heartfelt or silly messages to mama and baby.

It was a sweet celebration for an even sweeter mama-to-be. The afternoon was filled with so much joy and love for Chelsea and her precious baby girl!

A huge, heartfelt thanks to all of the incredible vendors involved:
